Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron', 2LAlso known as Cogon grass Rubra, this deciduous clump forming grass bears erect spears of green grass that have bright red tips in summer, living up to its alternate name of Japanese blood grass! As an ornamental grass, it adds colour and movement to the garden, with narrow, silvery white flower spikes appearing in mid summer. Foliage is retained from March to the first frosts, turning translucent as it matures, before dying back.
